Music! Where would we be without it. Well a lot of my life would have been a lot less exciting without it. It has the capacity to move us in many ways, it inspires us, motivates us and calms us. The power of music is immense.

I have often thought I would compile my all time top 10 CD's and I always fail dismally. I have very broad tastes in music what is my favourite varies with my mood.

However there are certain artists who have had a big impact on me at certain times in my life such as Jackson Browne and albums I never get tired of hearing such as Moontan from the Dutch band Golden Earring or Band on the Run from Wings. Then there are those classic tracks that are timeless like Led Zeppelins Kashmir or Deep Purple's Child in Time, Jackson Browne's Before the Deluge, The Doobie Bros. Listen to the Music, the list is Endless.

Then there is a whole range of music that will always be synonymous with my time on the Mi Amigo in the 70's including the well-known such as Fleetwood Mac, Bad Co. and the lesser known like the Kursall Flyers and Chilli Willie & the Red Hot Peppers, remember them?

If I ever manage to compile that elusive list I know one CD that will be somewhere right at the top, Jackson Browne's Running on Empty. Everything about that CD is amazing how it was made, where it was made and of course the words and music of Jackson Browne and the band.

Best kept secrets of Rock

There are some bands that come along who are just so good, but never get the exposure or acclaim they deserve. From my own point of view here is one of my favourite unknowns.

Texas Thunder

I feel Terry Wisbey’s Texas Thunder is one of the hottest bands currently playing around the UK. They are a dynamic trio recently described by America’s top selling Blues Revue magazine as ‘England’s masters of Lone Star sounds’. Drawing heavily on the influences of contemporary blues artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Larry Garner and the Fabulous Thunderbirds their sound especially the guitar solo has the effect of making the hairs on the back of the neck stand on end.

During the 8 years that the band has been on the road, doing more than 500 gigs they have built a redoubtable reputation for their energetic performances and great music. Their live performances are a blend of great covers and original songs penned by Terry. The band have recorded two albums, ‘Lonesome Highway’ released in 1997 and ‘Bolt from the Blues’ released in May 2003. Both received excellent reviews, particularly in the USA, the home of the blues.
